Last Sunday (17), in an interview with the website “Sporza”, Remco Evenepoel discussed the last stages of the Vuelta a España and stated that he is satisfied with his performance throughout the competition. In the general classification, the athlete finished in eighth place.

When declaring about the final match, which ended in Madrid, the cyclist reported that his legs were not holding up: “However, in the last 200 meters, my legs filled up. They still calmed me down easily. It was also difficult to attack because Kaden Groves was smart enough to stay behind my wheel. He knew I would try something else.”

The cyclist stated that the competition was different and that even after the rest day, he was not feeling completely well to continue winning in the competition, reporting that his legs were a little shaky. But still, when remembering the Vuelta a España, the athlete confirmed that he was happy with his performance and that he will remember the race with positive feelings.
“I still don’t know what I did mentally to win a stage the day after that collapse. I was really empty, but the moment I got on the bike afterwards I felt like I had good legs. Maybe it was a kind of ‘revenge’. After that, I found my morale again and responded with the pedals”, recalled the athlete.
Even though the Vuelta a España has come to an end, Remco Evenepoel’s competition calendar for this season has not yet been completed. In the coming months, the athlete is confirmed to participate in the II Lombardia, on October 7th, and in the Chrono des Nations time trial race, on October 15th.
