The greatest player in Barcelona’s history, Messi, has a Real Madrid fan at home, at least when it comes to teasing his brothers. In an interview with the “TyC” Sports channel, the star revealed that his eight-year-old son, Mateo, likes to celebrate the Spanish club’s goals.
“At home, when Thiago and Mateo watch football games together, Mateo likes to celebrate Real Madrid’s goals to tease his brother,” Messi said. Furthermore, Mateo doesn’t miss the opportunity to tease his own father. According to Messi, during games at home, the boy always mentions Liverpool and Valencia, two teams that caused his father difficulties throughout his career.
“When we play ball together in the backyard, he says: ‘I’m Liverpool and Valencia, because they beat you’,” Messi added.
For Barcelona, Messi was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 2019 Champions League by Liverpool. On that occasion, the English team overcame a three-goal deficit by winning 4-0 in the second leg at Anfield.
