According to a police report released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect driver is Samuel Carvalho Vasconcellos, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu with Pennsylvania plates found in Pompano Beach shortly after the accident.

Valdecir Cardoso da Silva, a cyclist and friend of Longuinho, reported that he started to feel suspicious that something was wrong as he realized it was taking too long for Longuinho to arrive at their destination. “He confirmed that he was on his way to meet the group of cyclists “Galera do Pedal Florida”, -said Valdecir Cardoso da Silva”.

It was then when he called his cell phone. A man who identified himself as Samuel, speaking in Portuguese, answered the phone, with a dowsing voice, seemingly drugged and confused stating more than once that the number belonged to him.

Valdecir thought the call was strange. It was only later on that he was informed by common friends that Longuinho had been run over and was in the hospital in serious condition. “We have the strong belief that the man who answered his phone is the suspect in these hit-and-run.” Valdecir concluded.

Longuinho Amaral Junior leaves a wife and a 4-year-old daughter. In addition of being part of the 250 member group of “Galera do Pedal Florida”, Junior was the ride leader of “Bora Pedalar” cycling group in Boca Raton.
