Olympics 2024: Paris to receive cycle lanes for bicycles
They include 30 kilometers of bike lanes within the capital that have been completed or are close to completion
Visitors to Paris will be able to cycle from the city center to nearby 2024 Olympic sports venues next summer, local officials said on Tuesday. The capital is to open up 55 kilometers (around 30 miles) of new bike paths to link venues in Paris to those in the northeastern suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis by July 2024.

They include 30 kilometers of bike lanes within the capital that have been completed or are close to completion, David Belliard of the city’s mayor’s office said in an interview. After the city used concrete barriers or yellow bollards to create temporary bike lanes during the Covid-19 pandemic, some claimed the bike lanes were an embarrassment and scar to the city and should be redone.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said the cycle paths – which the city has dubbed the “Olympilanes” – would be a great legacy for the city. The prefecture is also committed to making Paris green and ensuring that the Seine River is clean enough for swimming next summer.
